Hello all! Tokyo Dreamlife is a passion project of mine. I have been living in Japan for over five years, but only moved to Tokyo a year ago. I’m obsessed with this city (and I’m a jaded New Yorker, so that’s saying a lot) so I hope to share travel tips, photography, and current events (and of course FOOD) from my point of view. Japan is more than a guide book, and shouldn’t be enjoyed merely from a surface level. Context!
Ok, but who are you?
Trans-continental woman of mystery, that’s who. Just kidding, you can call me Maru. I was born in a small town in Poland, transplanted to the States at the tender age of five, and grew up a true angry Brooklyn Girl, with a healthy dose of angst thrown in.

That’s me wearing a motorcycle jacket even though I can’t even ride a bicycle.
3 Points About Me
- International Marriage: I’m married to an awesome Japanese guy and we are raising a lovely boy. Marriage requires a lot of maintenance as is, but once you add in cultural differences things can get messy! It’s one thing I want to share (and get feedback as well).
- Writer: It’s a bit embarrassing calling myself a writer as I’m mainly freelance for now. I write travel pieces for online magazines but I hope to branch out and gain a greater variety of work! Working for a magazine is THE dream.
- Nerd: Video games, check. Anime, check. Manga, books, food, and the like. Any fellow Otaku and foodies out there?
Who is Your Audience?
I don’t know yet. That’s the exciting part. I’m writing this during the time of Coronavirus when many of us are very isolated, and that’s what gave me the push to start. I hope this blog can be a place for different kinds of people from all over the world to connect.
